Ash Cookie Coffee Table

A client had an Ash tree in their backyard succumb to the Ash Borer Beetle. They saved the wood and had one piece cut as a large cookie (3 feet in diameter). It sat in the backyard exposed to the environment for three years. Now it has dried out, cracked, and warped. We discussed turning it into a coffee table, and decided to apply walnut butterflies on both sides to serve as an accent as well as securing the crack. I used epoxy to fill the large crack and applied a satin finish. They purchased the legs for the coffee table but they are not attached. This gave the client the freedom to change the look by flipping the top over.
